The Danish Ministry of Defence has swiftly rejected a report from Russia’s state-run news agency Tass, which falsely claimed that a Danish F-16 instructor had been killed in Ukraine during a Russian missile strike on a Ukrainian training facility. The story, which surfaced on Saturday, was promptly labeled as disinformation by Copenhagen.
Speaking to Ritzau, Danish Defence Minister Troels Lund Poulsen condemned the report as completely unfounded, emphasizing that no Danish soldiers have been killed in Ukraine. “This is a completely false narrative being pushed by Russian media, likely to discredit Denmark and its support for Ukraine,” Poulsen stated. “It is a serious attempt to manipulate the information environment at a time of heightened tensions.”
This false claim, part of a broader Russian misinformation campaign, comes amid escalating disinformation efforts aimed at destabilizing Western countries, including Denmark. While the Tass report cited an unnamed military source, it did not specify which country’s military the source was allegedly from, raising further doubts about its credibility.
